Overview

Hikes and bivouacs in the secret places of northern Madagascar. Aboard a traditional dhow, we will sail on the Mozambique Channel to beautiful bays and heavenly beaches. An original way to discover this almost unknown part of the Big Island. DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN DIEGO

Arrival in Diego Suarez.

This city is known to still have some vestiges of the colonial era. Visit of the bay of Diego and its Sugar Loaf, the cemeteries, Bazary kely (the market), the churches, the hospital, the square Foch, the hotel of the Navy, the Jacob mosque, the square Joffre to observe Cape Diego, the old city and the port.

DAY 2: DIEGO - BAY OF ARABE

Welcome at the hotel early in the morning for a transfer by private boat to Antsisikala.

Maritime transfer aboard a traditional dhow, equipped with life jackets, waterproofs and a 45 horsepower engine. The maritime transfer will allow you to cross a part of the bay of Diego Suarez. Stop in front of Diego Cape to admire the endemic Baobabs of Diego Suarez and discover the old vestiges of the French military presence. Beginning of the trek at the arrival to Antsisikala. This climbing will allow you to contemplate this magnificent bay of Diego Suarez. Discovery of many creeks, isolated beaches, some marine tsingys, many pachypodiums and some wild boars... during the hike

5h to 6h of walking, 113 m of uneven terrain, easy walk, hiking trail. Necessary equipment: walking shoes or good sneakers, sun protection items, bottle of water.

Picnic lunch in a place sheltered from the sun, in the village of Anviabe.

Dinner and night in a bivouac in the bay of Arabe.

Cap d'Ambre
DAY 3: BAY OF ARABE - CAP D'AMBRE

Departure for the trek after the breakfast. 24 kilometers of walk to reach the famous Cape of Amber, passing by the way "of the peaks" to discover the Channel of Mozambique and the bay of Diego Suarez.

5h to 6h of walking approximately, 50 to 70 m of difference in level, easy walk, hiking trail. Equipment to bring: walking shoes or good sneakers, sun protection, mosquito repellent, water bottle.

Picnic lunch during the hike.

Arrival at the lighthouse, arrival point of the hike in the afternoon. Swimming and discovery of the sea bed (corals, multicolored fish, turtles, rays and dolphins). Swimming accompanied by our guide. It is forbidden to swim alone in the in the surroundings of Cap d’Ambre. Cap d’Ambre is known for its currents flows.

DAY 4: CAP D'AMBRE – BAY OF COURRIER

Departure for the hike after breakfast. After having fully enjoyed the Cap d'Ambre and its panorama, back to pathways towards the village of Andravondrony.

5h to 6h of walking, 50m to 70m of uneven terrain, average level of difficulty, stony and sandy track. Necessary equipment: walking shoes or good sneakers, sun protection items, bottle of water

Lunch in the village Antsahapano. 

Transfer by 4x4 at the end of the afternoon to reach the mail bay. Like an eagle's nest, it allows to appreciate a superb 360° panoramic view with the bay of Diego to the East, the Cap d'Ambre to the North, the Mozambique Channel and the archipelago of Nosy-Hara to the West and the village of Ampasindava to the South.

DAY 5: BAY OF COURIER - NOSY HARA

Discovery of the Nosy Hara marine reserve in the morning. An archipelago of 12 islands where the characteristic marine Tsingy of Madagascar. Start the exploration with a snorkeling session. With mask and snorkel, discover the extraordinary sea beds of the archipelago.

Lunch prepared by us on site.

After lunch, departure for a hike to admire the marine tsingy, the caves of Nosy Hara, meet some chameleons including the Brookesia the smallest chameleon in the world, some dogfish. You will cross the top of the tsingy culminating at 73 meters and will enjoy a breathtaking view on the archipelago of Nosy Hara, the Mozambique Channel and on the island where the bivouac will be installed.

3h to 4h of walking, 70 m of difference in altitude, average level of difficulty, hiking trail. Necessary equipment: walking shoes or good sneakers, sun protection items, bottle of water

DAY 6: NOSY HARA - DIEGO

Breakfast and swimming before returning to the mainland.  Arrived at Ampasindava, you will take back the vehicle. On the way back, you will go around the salt mines and the salt company of Madagascar. Small stop in the village of Namakia where the mango trees of the city of Diego Suarez and old Reunionese dwellings are nesting.

DAY 7 : DIEGO - TANA - PARIS

Depending on flight schedules, transfer to Diego airport and flight to Antananarivo. Welcome on arrival. Installation in a hotel near the airport for a Day Use. Dinner on site. In the evening, return to the airport and check-in for the flight to France.
