Morondava

The Baobab Coast and its famous avenue.

Best time to goApril → November Recommended duration1 to 2 days Trips1

Morondava is the coastal capital of Menabe, on the Mozambique Channel — and the gateway to the Avenue of the Baobabs, about twenty minutes along the track north of town. A Vezo fishing port, beaches lined with casuarina trees, low-rise houses: a laid-back seaside town from which the great adventures of the West radiate.

Not to be missed

Sunset over the Avenue of the Baobabs — Madagascar’s most famous landscape —, the sacred baobab and the nearby Baobabs in Love, and the fishing district of Betania when the dugout canoes come home.

Good to know

Morondava is the ideal base camp: to the north, the track leads to the Tsingy de Bemaraha; to the south, to Belo-sur-Mer and, on the loop, all the way to Tuléar.
