Ranomafana is one of Madagascar’s great national parks: a humid rainforest clinging to the slopes of the Betsileo escarpment, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site along with the Rainforests of the Atsinanana. It’s the realm of lemurs — including the golden bamboo lemur, discovered here in 1986 — chameleons and hundreds of endemic species.
Not to be missed
A guided hike through the primary forest in search of bamboo lemurs, a night walk on the edge of the park to spot mouse lemurs and chameleons, and the spa village of Ranomafana with the hot springs that give it its name.
Good to know
The forest is humid year-round: showers are frequent even in the dry season. A guide is compulsory in the park — ours know the territories of the lemur groups.
